Start 2026 Strong: Ministry Training Events for North Georgia United Methodists


Clergy and laity—we’re kicking off 2026 with a series of focused, in-person training events designed to equip leaders across our conference. All North Georgia United Methodists are welcome to attend any training.

Launching Church Leaders Webinar – January 22, 2026, 7pm.

Leaders from churches of all sizes are invited to the “Launching Your Church Council” webinar on Thursday, January 22, from 7-8:30 pm.
This training is for:

  • Church Council chairs (led by Rev. Jeff Cook and Rev. Dr. Michael McQueen)
  • SPR Committees (led by Rev. Dr. Scott Hagan and Rev. Dr. Julie Boone)
  • Trustees (led by Rev. Dr. Carolyn Stephens)
  • Finance Committees (led by Rev. Dr. Doug Gilreath)
  • Nominations and Lay Leadership Teams (led by Rev. Dr. Beth Sanders)

This session is designed to equip church councils with the tools they need to lead effectively. Multiple council members are encouraged to participate.

The webinar will cover:

  • Key requirements outlined in the Book of Discipline.
  • Practical strategies to move beyond the basics and embrace best practices.
  • Insights to help your council function effectively, provide strong support, and make a meaningful impact in ministry.

Youth Leaders and Leaders Who Are Youth: Experiential Training Event

Saturday, January 10 | 10 am–3 pm
Glisson Camp and Retreat Center, Dahlonega
This isn’t your typical leadership workshop! Join Russell Davis, the North Georgia Camp & Retreat Ministries Team, and the North East District for a hands-on experience where youth (grades 10–12) and adult leaders learn side by side. Explore practical tools for building stronger ministries, deeper relationships, and more effective leadership. Each church is invited to send 4–6 participants (adult accompaniment required for youth). Cost: $15 per person (lunch included). Register today!
